Don’t let the Holiday Season ruin your progress

It’s that time of the year: Holiday shopping, Company Holiday party, Family Holiday party, Friends Holiday party, kids are on break from school. Many reasons to take a break on your training regimen. Because you’re human. C’mon, you can start again once the new year starts, right?! Well, maybe not. Jiu-Jitsu is all about consistency. Consistency in practice but also in habits. Jiu-Jitsu is a lifetime activity, for sure, and you can practice for your whole life but the habits you create along the journey will end up dictating how far you go.

Life is about balance, so let’s throw some balance in there. If you always take a break when things seem hectic, this will become a habit. It will probably reflect in your practice. Stuck in a hard position? Hmmm, what about a “break” and tap? “I can restart and try again”. Had a rough day at work? What about a “break” and skip today’s class? “I can go tomorrow”. Point is life will always swing at us. If taking a break becomes a habit, chances are you will end up giving up in the middle of the way.

Your progress is sacred. Is yours. You earned it. So you’re responsible for it. Take good care of it. You’re not going to skip all the celebrations – again, life is balance – but what about stopping on the third drink instead of the 5th? Or what about committing to come home early so you have a restful night of sleep? Open Mat tomorrow? Let’s do it!!!

Stay consistent with your consistency. Make it a habit. See your Jiu-Jitsu (and life) improving.

We at American Martial Art Academy would like to wish you Happy Holidays and a New Year filled with Jiu-Jitsu, good vibes and success!

See you next year with more blogs and content!
